Five seafarers find themselves stranded on the shores of Øland, an island located somewhere between reality and fiction. As they attempt to recreate the world from memory they stumble between past and present, unfolding visions of a future in a shimmering post-decadent landscape. In Øland, Marble Crowd continues to attempt grand tasks through a collective practice of transformative play. Working with the island as a stage, they create a haunting and continually shifting ecology of make-belief.
Bio
Marble Crowd is a Reykjavik based ensemble of artists interested in the site-specificity of big stages, weather maps, the impossible and in choreographic strategies of play as tools for transformative spectacle. Moving mountains in three essays (K3|Tanzplan, Kampnagel Hamburg, 2017) was their first production, and with Øland (Iceland National Theatre, 2020) Marble Crowd has presented the first two parts of a trilogy on hope and disaster, reflecting on landscapes, big stages and the collective.
