The Akureyri Culture Society operates a dynamic professional theatre that utilizes the unique facilities of the historic Samkomuhúsið and the modern spaces of the Hof Cultural Centre.

The Akureyri Culture Society (MAk) oversees a vibrant arts scene in Northern Iceland, including the operations of the Akureyri Theatre Company (LA). The company is the largest professional theatre in Iceland outside the capital area and has long been a driving force in the Icelandic theatre scene. Operations take place in two distinct yet magnificent venues: Samkomuhúsið and the Hof Cultural Centre.
Samkomuhúsið is the heart of the theatre company. Built in 1906, it is considered one of the town's most beautiful buildings and possesses a unique charm. It features a classic raked proscenium stage that fosters an intimacy with the audience, creating a unique atmosphere.
The Hof Cultural Centre is a modern music and conference venue offering first-class technical equipment. It houses the main hall, Hamraborg, seating approximately 500 guests, and a smaller hall, Hamrar, which is ideal for smaller events and concerts.
The Akureyri Theatre Company’s repertoire is diverse and ambitious, tackling major musicals, new Icelandic plays, and children's works. The interplay between the historic Samkomuhúsið and the high-tech Hof allows the company to stage productions of all scales.
