When Virginia woke up from a stroke, her world looked like a scene from a clown show. Aphasia made her a prisoner in her own body and the most everyday actions became a challenge. Before the stroke, Virginia worked for years as a professional clown in hospitals in Scotland. Now she is sitting on the other side of the table and doesn't know whether to cry or laugh at the absurdity. Bio
Stroke is based on a true story by Virginia Gillard in collaboration with the performing arts group, Trigger Warning. Trigger Warning was formed in 2016 in Iceland. With the methods of devised documentary theatre, Trigger Warning stages individual stories that deal with a larger societal context. Among previous works is She dad and Welcome home. Both pieces toured Iceland and She dad in the Nordic countries.
