The Reykjavík City Theatre is a state-of-the-art venue offering large-scale productions and innovation across three stages.

The Reykjavík City Theatre is one of the country's most dynamic cultural institutions and a hub for diverse performing arts in Reykjavík. The theatre opened in its current location in 1989 and is one of the most technically advanced venues in Iceland.
The building houses three main stages: The Main Stage (Stóra sviðið), which seats approximately 550 guests, The Small Stage (Litla sviðið), and The New Stage (Nýja sviðið), a flexible "black box" space. Additionally, performances are frequently held in the foyer and other unconventional spaces throughout the building.
The Reykjavík City Theatre’s repertoire spans from new Icelandic works and bold experimental theatre to large-scale productions and musicals. The theatre places a strong emphasis on innovation and maintains successful, regular collaborations with independent theatre groups, ensuring a vibrant flow of ideas and broad appeal to audiences of all ages.

The main stage of the City Theatre is the most technologically advanced stage in the country.
Proscenium

The seating arrangement in the auditorium can be changed or even removed altogether. The stage is well-equipped with lighting, sound and video equipment.
Black box

The Small Stage is very suitable for meetings and presentations. The Small Stage creates more intimacy than the Large Stage. The shape of the hall means that the distance from the stage to the back row is very small.
