Open Call for Artistic Director of Gríman Awards 2026

The Performing Arts Association of Iceland (Sviðslistasamband Íslands) is seeking an Artistic Director for the 2026 Gríma Awards. The ceremony – the Icelandic Performing Arts Awards – will be held at the National Theatre on May 26th and broadcast live on RÚV (The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service).

The Gríma Awards are a celebration of the Icelandic performing arts and one of the industry's most prestigious honors, recognizing outstanding achievements over the past season. The event is organized by the Performing Arts Association of Iceland in collaboration with its member associations, institutions, and RÚV, with the goal of creating a grand, professional, and memorable ceremony.

The Role of the Artistic DirectorThe Artistic Director is responsible for the overall artistic vision and execution of the ceremony in close cooperation with the Gríma Project Manager, RÚV, and the host theatre. The role involves shaping the artistic tone of the awards and coordinating all creative elements from preparation to final production.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining the artistic vision of the ceremony, including stage design, atmosphere, and program flow.
  • Selecting and collaborating with artists, presenters, and other participants.
  • Overseeing entertainment acts and segments, including the preparation and direction of nominee announcements in collaboration with RÚV.
  • Working closely with the production team, RÚV’s technical crew, and host theatre staff.
  • Participating in rehearsal planning and ensuring a professional and cohesive execution of the event.

The Artistic Director reports to the Board of the Performing Arts Association of Iceland and works closely with the Gríma Project Manager and the President of the Association.

RequirementsWe are looking for an individual who:

  • Has experience in the performing arts, event production, and/or artistic direction.
  • Possesses a strong artistic vision and excellent communication skills.
  • Can work independently and proactively, as well as in close collaboration with a diverse team.
  • Is organized and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Has a good overview and understanding of the division of labor and responsibilities within artistic production.

This is a temporary project from March to the end of May 2026. The workload varies throughout the period, increasing as the date of the ceremony approaches.
