Applications Open for Translation Grants – October 2025

The Performing Arts Centre Iceland is pleased to announce that applications for translation grants are now open. The application deadline is October 31st, 2025, at 16:00 (GMT).

Revised Conditions – No longer required to have a letter of commitment

We would like to draw special attention to the fact that the grant conditions have been expanded. It is no longer a requirement to have a confirmed performance abroad. Instead, applicants must submit a plan for the promotion and distribution of the translation.

Objective of the Translation Grants

The objective of the translation grants is to generate interest, increase visibility, and boost demand for Icelandic plays and performing arts on the international stage.

Who can apply?

The grants are intended for playwrights, directors, producers, and representatives of theaters or festivals who seek to translate original Icelandic plays into other languages. The play must have premiered in Iceland before applying for translation support.

What is funded?

• The translation of original Icelandic plays into other languages.

• Subtitling (captioning) of Icelandic stage works for performances outside Iceland.

Please Note:

• The Performing Arts Centre Iceland does not fully fund translation costs.

• The translation must be done directly from Icelandic.

• It is preferred that the translator is a native speaker of the target language.

• Support for adaptation or production costs is not covered by this grant.
